JobBOSS² is ECI Software Solutions' ERP for job shops and machine shops, and was formerly known as E2 Shop1. For a small Epicor shop that uses a fraction of its ERP, it is a simpler system built around the quote, the job and its cost.

Best for: Small make-to-order job shops and machine shops that need quoting, scheduling, job costing and shop-floor time tracking, with QuickBooks for accounting.

Not the right fit for: Multi-site manufacturers, or those that want the ledger and production in one system rather than an ERP linked to QuickBooks.

What it offers a job shop leaving Epicor

The system covers quoting with conversion to orders and jobs, bills of material, drag-and-drop scheduling and load balancing, job costing that compares estimated with actual cost, inventory with forecasting and automated purchase orders, shop-floor time tracking from mobile apps, quality, reporting and shipping documents1. Accounting runs through an integration with QuickBooks Desktop or Online. Add-ons include MES, CRM and an AI BOM builder that drafts bills of material from PDFs, spreadsheets, images and CSV files.

For US customers, ECI offers multi-tenant SaaS, a private hosted cloud or an on-premises installation. It states that implementation takes about three to six months, that support is based in the US and that the software complies with ITAR1.

Published evidence

  • USA Dutch Inc. ECI publishes a 65% increase in on-time deliveries, attributed to the company’s operations manager.1
  • X-mill inc. ECI publishes a 20% increase in efficiency, attributed to the company’s general manager.1

These are short testimonials published by ECI. Its headline claim of 160% revenue growth is not tied to a named customer1.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • Three deployment options for US customers: multi-tenant SaaS, a private hosted cloud or on-premises.
  • An AI BOM builder drafts bills of material from PDFs, spreadsheets, images and CSV files.
  • Publishes named customer results, and states an implementation time of about three to six months.
  • ECI says the software complies with ITAR, and support is based in the US.

Limits

  • Pricing is not published.
  • The only AI feature described is the BOM builder.
  • Its headline claim of 160% revenue growth is not tied to a named customer.

Choose another option if: You run several plants, need mixed-mode or configure-to-order planning, or want the general ledger inside the ERP.

Questions to ask ECI

  • What would our first-year and five-year costs be on SaaS and on-premises?
  • How would our Epicor jobs, routings and open orders be converted?
  • How does the QuickBooks integration handle job costs and work in process?
  • Can we speak to a shop that moved from Epicor?

The comparison table in the main guide sets JobBOSS² against the other seven options.
